A square is 100 square feet of roof. Ranges assume one layer to remove and sound decking; extra layers, rotten wood and complex roofs add cost. Call for a real price.

Roofers price by the square, which is 100 square feet of roof surface. Your roof is bigger than your footprint because it slopes and overhangs the walls, so the calculator multiplies your footprint by a pitch factor and adds about 12 percent for eaves and rakes.
- Low slope (4/12): multiply by 1.054
- Standard (6/12): multiply by 1.118
- Steep (8/12): multiply by 1.202
- Very steep (10/12): multiply by 1.302
From there it adds about 10 percent for cutting waste and rounds to the next third of a square, because architectural shingles usually come three bundles to a square.
Where the price ranges come from
The ranges reflect typical installed prices our crews see in Little Rock in 2026, with one layer torn off and sound decking. Two-story homes get a small bump for staging and safety. See line-item prices on the roof pricing guide, or read what a new roof costs in Little Rock.
When to skip the calculator
If water is coming through a ceiling right now, call instead. A leak needs a tarp or a repair today, not a replacement budget. The same goes for storm damage you plan to claim: we document the roof first so your adjuster sees what the storm did.
Calculator questions
How accurate is the roof size calculator compared with a real measurement?
It is a planning number. It multiplies your footprint by a pitch factor and adds about 12 percent for eaves and overhangs, which lands close on simple gable and hip roofs. Dormers, valleys, porches and multiple roof levels change the real count, so we measure every roof before we price it.
Why does the calculator show more squares to order than the roof area?
Every roof needs extra material for cutting at hips, valleys and rakes, plus starter and ridge cap. We add roughly 10 percent waste and round to the next third of a square, since shingles come about three bundles to a square.
Does the calculator price include tearing off my old roof?
Yes. The ranges assume one layer of old roofing removed and hauled away, new underlayment and flashing, and sound decking. A second layer to tear off, rotten plywood or a very complex roof will push the real price above the range.
