How we handle itBarn Roofs & Shingle Repair
Bald Knob sits where the Ozark foothills meet the Delta, and a lot of properties here pair an older house with a barn, shop or equipment shed. We repair shingles on the house and put new metal on the outbuildings.
Bald Knob roof work is a mix of shingle repairs on older frame and brick homes and metal roofing on barns, shops and equipment sheds. Shingle repairs typically run $370 to $1,150, and new exposed fastener metal on a 30 by 40 shop often costs $6,180 to $10,940. We are about an hour from downtown Little Rock and schedule trips ahead.

Bald Knob takes its name from the bare rock outcrop that once guided travelers across the flat bottomland, and the town still calls itself the place where the Ozarks meet the Delta. To the south and east, rice and soybean fields open up toward the Bald Knob National Wildlife Refuge. To the north, the land starts to roll.
The town was once known as a strawberry capital, and the farming roots show in the property mix. In town you find frame houses, small brick ranches and a few older homes from the railroad era. Out on the county roads, most places have a house plus at least one barn, shop or pole shed.
That means many of our Bald Knob visits cover two very different roofs on the same trip.
Old barn roofs fail in familiar ways. Rusted panels at the eaves where water sits, fasteners whose rubber washers have dried and cracked, and panels lifted at the corners by wind. A shop roof that leaks over a tractor or a workbench costs more in damage every season it waits.
For roofs that are mostly sound, we replace the failed fasteners with new gasketed screws, swap out rusted panels and reseal the ridge and laps. When the steel is thin or rusted through in many places, a full new metal roof is usually the better money.
Ventilation matters in shops too. A closed metal building with no ridge vent or gable louvers collects condensation on the underside of the panels, and that drip can look like a roof leak. We look at airflow before we start replacing panels that are not the real problem.
If you store hay, equipment or a boat in the building, tell us. It changes how we stage the work and whether we can leave part of the roof open overnight.
Many houses in town carry shingles that have been patched more than once, sometimes over an older layer. Common repairs include replacing blown off tabs, resealing chimney flashing on older brick homes and fixing porch roof tie-ins where the low slope meets the main roof.
Low-slope porch and carport roofs are a frequent leak source here. Shingles on a pitch that flat do not shed water well, and we often recommend converting those sections to a proper low-slope membrane or metal while the rest of the house keeps its shingles.
Chimney leaks on older brick homes are common here too. Mortar crumbles, the counterflashing pulls loose, and water runs down inside the chimney chase. We reflash with new step and counterflashing and reset it into a fresh mortar joint.
Storms that build over the Delta have miles of open ground to cross before they reach a Bald Knob roof. Straight-line winds in spring and early summer peel back shingle edges, lift metal panels at the gable ends and send loose sheet metal from one property onto another.
Tornadoes are part of the local history too. A March 1952 tornado destroyed much of the school campus. After a storm, we photograph every lifted panel and creased shingle, which helps if you file a claim, and we secure open areas before a second round of rain.
Ice storms are less common, but they do happen. Ice weighs down limbs, fills gutters and can pull weak gutter brackets loose from soft fascia boards.
Bald Knob is about an hour from our downtown Little Rock office, at the point where US 167 splits off toward Batesville. We schedule visits rather than promising same-hour arrival, and we often pair Bald Knob jobs with work in Searcy and Beebe on the same day.
Call (501) 387-1152 and tell us what needs attention, both house and outbuildings. We measure everything on one visit and give you a written price before any work starts. When we finish, we clean up and run a magnet sweep for nails, including around barn doors and gravel drives where tires roll.

How we handle itYes. Many Bald Knob properties have a shingled house and a metal barn or shop, and we measure and price both on one visit. Doing them together often saves on travel and setup. You get a separate written price for each building so you can decide whether to do one now and the other later.
For a typical 30 by 40 shop around Bald Knob, new exposed fastener metal usually runs $6,180 to $10,940. The price moves with panel gauge, roof pitch, whether purlins need replacing and how much old metal has to come off. We inspect the framing first and put the full price in writing.
Porch and carport sections on many older Bald Knob homes are too flat for shingles to shed water properly. Wind-driven rain gets under the tabs and into the tie-in with the main roof. Converting that section to a low-slope membrane or metal and reflashing the joint usually stops the leak for good.
